If you’re looking for a quick and delicious way to prepare a healthy meal, spaghetti squash is the perfect solution. When cooked, its flesh separates into filaments reminiscent of the pasta of the same name. But cooking spaghetti squash in the oven can take a bit of time. Here is the technique to use to significantly reduce preparation time while maintaining the flavor and nutritional benefits of this vegetable.
Start by washing the spaghetti squash under cold water to remove any dirt or residue. Next, use a sharp knife or fork to poke several holes in the squash. These perforations will allow steam to escape during cooking, preventing any pressure buildup inside.
Place the squash in a microwave-safe dish, preferably suitable for its size. Cover the dish with microwaveable plastic wrap or a plate to retain moisture. The squash must be cooked whole. Next, set your microwave to high power.
Cook for approximately 6 minutes for a 500 g squash and 12 minutes for a 1 kilo squash. Turn the squash halfway through cooking for even cooking. Extend cooking if necessary.
After cooking, carefully remove the squash from the microwave, as it will be very hot. Let it cool for a few minutes. Once cooled, cut it in half lengthwise. Using a spoon, remove the seeds from the center of each half. You will see that the flesh of the squash has transformed into long threads of spaghetti.
