Your coffee machine is much more than just a household appliance. It’s your faithful morning companion, the one who gently wakes you up with the captivating smell of freshly ground coffee. Over time, the risk of it breaking down increases. The accumulation of limescale deposits can hinder the proper functioning of your coffee machine, thereby reducing the quality of your favorite drink. Fortunately, there is a simple and economical solution to descale your coffee machine without damaging it.

Before you begin the descaling process, you need to prepare your homemade solution to put in the machine and some accessories. To do this, you will need white vinegar, water, a container, a used toothbrush, and a clean cloth. White vinegar is your secret ally for eliminating limescale deposits, because it is not only effective, but also ecological. Instead, choose a vinegar with a concentration between 10 and 14% acidity for better effectiveness.

Step 1 : Mix the descaling solution. Fill your container with a mixture of half water and half white vinegar.

2nd step : Empty the machine. Make sure your coffee machine is completely turned off and the water tank is empty.

Step 3: Start the descaling cycle. Pour the vinegar and water solution into the machine’s reservoir. Then turn the machine on to carry out a descaling cycle. The white vinegar will circulate through the machine’s ducts, dissolving limescale deposits.

Step 4: Repeat the process. It is recommended to repeat this operation a second time, or even a third time, to be sure that all limescale residue has been removed.

Once the descaling cycle is complete, run the coffee machine with clean water to remove any traces of vinegar.

While the machine is going through the descaling cycle, take advantage of this time to remove removable components such as the water tank, filter holder and drip tray. Clean them using a used toothbrush dipped in vinegar water to remove accumulated lime deposits.

Once all these steps are completed, your coffee machine is ready to offer you delicious coffee again, free of any vinegar taste or smell.
