Marmorstein also warned that “Israel will do everything necessary to protect Israeli citizens,” which includes “continuing operations until the release of the 132 hostages and the destruction of Hamas.”
In this regard, he recalled that it was Hamas that, “in the midst of negotiations”, “chose to fire rockets at the Kerem Shalom crossing, the entry point for humanitarian aid, and kill four soldiers”.
These rockets, said the spokesperson, “were launched from Rafah”.
“The person who fired shots at a humanitarian crossing and who tried to boycott the agreement for the release of hostages and humanitarian aid is the terrorist organization Hamas,” Marmorstein stressed.
Borrell referred to this new escalation of tensions in a statement to the media in Brussels on Tuesday, in which he classified the failure of an agreement as “bad news”.
“Hamas accepted it, Israel rejected it and resumed the ground offensive against Rafah, despite all requests from the international community,” he said at the time.
