Dfter the warning left by Donald Trump to NATO allies, the Organization has already reacted and criticized the former president of the United States, considering that his comments expose “American and European soldiers to an increased risk”.
It is worth noting that Republican Donald Trump said, on Saturday, that, if he is re-elected president of the United States, he will tell NATO allies that he would encourage Russia to do whatever it wants with countries owed debts to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
“NATO remains ready and capable of defending all its allies. Any attack on NATO will be met with a united and vigorous response”, began by referring to NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, in a statement.
“Any suggestion that allies will not defend each other undermines the security of all of us, including the United States, and exposes American and European soldiers to increased risk,” he added, saying he hoped that “regardless of who wins the presidential elections, the US continues to be a strong and committed ally of NATO”.
Remember that Trump related a story he had previously told about an unidentified NATO member who confronted him about the threat of not defending states that did not meet the Atlantic Alliance’s funding targets.
The former North American president frequently criticizes the organization’s allies who do not sufficiently finance the institution.
“One of the presidents of a large country stood up and said: Well, sir, if we don’t pay and we are attacked by Russia, will you defend us?”, reported the millionaire before revealing the answer: “No, I will not protect- more. In fact, I will encourage you to do whatever you want. You have to pay your debts.”
“He didn’t pay, he’s a criminal,” said Trump when recalling the episode.
This statement came after Trump, the likely candidate against Democrat Joe Biden in the November elections, put pressure on elected Republicans in Congress to reject a bill that provides for new aid to Ukraine.
The White House reacted strongly to the former president’s proposal: “Encouraging the invasion of our closest allies by murderous regimes is embarrassing and insane,” said White House spokesman Andrew Bates on Saturday night.
“Instead of calling for war and promoting chaos, President Biden will continue to support American leadership,” he added.
