“A Germany is becoming a country of others”, said the ultranationalist politician in his weekly radio interview from Berlin, a few hours before a meeting with the German Chancellor, the social democrat Olaf Scholz.

The head of the Hungarian Government referred to the presence of immigrants that he said he observed in the German capital and expressed the hope that his country’s destiny would be different.

“This Germany is not what it was ten years ago. It is a multicultural and multicolored world,” declared Orbán in the Berlin studio of Hungarian radio Kossuth, according to the portal vg.hu.

“Migrants are no longer guests of native Germans, they are increasingly owners of Germany. That is why Hungary must be preserved as an island of peace and a Hungarian country”, he argued.

According to Orbán, known for his total rejection of immigration, the “white Christian population is decreasing and the Muslim community is growing”.

In an allusion to Berlin’s support for Ukraine, the Hungarian prime minister said he had observed a “militaristic atmosphere in Germany” and pointed to a union among “those who want to drag Europe into war at an accelerated pace.”

“Germany is becoming militarized and the German media is falling into persuasion and argument that Germany should participate in a war, which was unthinkable three years ago,” Orbán said.

At the same time, he stated that Germany is Hungary’s ally, as it has the same interest “in connecting to the world economy” and expressed confidence that the Hungarians have a place in the transformation that German industry is going through.

The German car factory Mercedes “is a good example of understanding the essence of Hungarian-German relations”, concluded Viktor Orbán.

Hungary assumes the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) in the second half of 2024. The Hungarian presidency will have the motto “Making Europe Great Again”.
