The Piñata Cake (read piñata) is becoming popular in Brazil on birthdays and even for Easter. A surprising, delicious cake that makes children happy.

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups (tea) of wheat flour
  • 2 cups of sugar (tea)
  • ¾ cup (tea) oil
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk (tea)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder

Filling Ingredients

  • 400 grams of chopped semi-sweet chocolate
  • 200 grams of cream
  • Confectionery to taste

Basic Syrup Ingredients

  • 2 cups (tea) of water
  • 1 cup (tea) sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • Rum

Syrup Preparation Method

  1. In a small pan, place the first 4 ingredients.
  2. Bring to a boil. Turn off and let cool.
  3. Strain and flavor. It can be with Rum, or another drink of your choice, or just the syrup.

Dough Preparation Method

  1. Prepare 3 small round molds or two slightly larger ones, greasing and flouring them. Reserve.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
  3. In a blender, beat the eggs with the oil well.
  4. Add the milk and essence.
  5. Add the sugar and beat some more.
  6. In a bowl, place the egg cream and sift the flour and baking powder over it.
  7. Mix well until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough.
  8. Using a spoon, divide the dough into equal amounts in the molds.
  9. Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the cakes are done.
  10. Remove, unmold and let cool.

Filling preparation method

  1. Melt the chocolate in a bain-marie or in the microwave.
  2. Add the cream and mix well.


  1. In a cake holder with a pedestal, place the dough.
  2. Moisten with the syrup. See Mom’s tips below the recipe.
  3. Spread a thin layer of filling.
  4. Add the second dough.
  5. Using a knife or cutter, remove the center of the cake to 10 cm in diameter.
  6. Moisten the dough.
  7. Spread a thin layer of filling.
  8. Fill the center of the cake with the sprinkles.
  9. Finish with the third dough.
  10. Decorate the entire cake with fondant or icing of your choice.

Mom Tips

Syrup: Syrups can be soft. You can reduce the amount of cinnamon and cloves. Important: moisten and don’t soak the cake. No Moisten near the edges of the cake.

The chocolate in the filling can be black or white.

For Easter, use chocolate sprinkles to fill the cake like chocolate eggs.

Approximate cake yield is approximately 14 triangular slices.
