“O electoral calendar was approved at the meeting of heads of the judiciary, government and parliament. With the concurrence of the Council of Guardians [órgão que fiscaliza a Constituição]it was decided that the 14th presidential election will be held on June 28th”, indicated the state channel.
The wreckage of the helicopter that disappeared on Sunday was discovered at dawn on the side of a mountain, in the area of Kalibar and Warzghan, in the province of East Azerbaijan, where the device crashed for reasons still unknown.
According to Iranian press reports, the helicopter took off in difficult weather conditions.
Iranian rescue teams recovered the bodies of Ebrahim Raisi and eight other passengers on board, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
After intense searches, made difficult by adverse weather conditions, the Iranian Government confirmed Raisi’s death, adding that the disaster will not cause “any disturbance in the administration” of the country.
This morning, Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, appointed Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as interim head of state and decreed five days of mourning for the death of Ebrahim Raisi.
The Iranian President’s funeral ceremonies are expected to begin on Tuesday in Tabriz, northwest of the country, according to the official Iranian agency.
