O The Israeli army, in a statement published on its official portal, clarified that the dead soldier was Sergeant Meiron Moshe Gersch, “fallen in combat in the north of the Gaza Strip”, before specifying that his family had already been informed of his death.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Tuesday that “a few thousand” Hamas members remain in northern Gaza, after almost three months of offensive, stressing that fighting is more intense in the south of the Strip.

The number of Israeli soldiers killed since October 7, including those killed by Hamas during attacks in southern Israel, surpassed the 500 barrier last week, as attacks by the Palestinian Islamic group on Israeli soil caused the deaths of 335 military.

The Israeli army launched its offensive against the Palestinian enclave after the Hamas attacks on October 7, which left around 1,200 dead and almost 240 Israelis kidnapped.

Authorities in the enclave, controlled by the Palestinian Islamist group, have so far recorded almost 22,200 Palestinian deaths as a result of the Israeli offensive, in addition to more than 300 deaths in operations by Israeli security forces and attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem Eastern.
