EIn a statement, the Ukrainian security services (SBU) confirmed the arrest of a man who intended to enlist as a chaplain in the Ukrainian Army to transmit military information to Moscow.

According to another statement from the SBU, a second man was detained, accused of having been recruited by Russia to obtain information about a Ukrainian Army hospital and a power plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region (central east).

On the ground, an air strike hit a building in the town of Mykolaivka in the eastern region of Donetsk, causing the death of a woman, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said.

In the Kherson region (south), a taxi driver died when his vehicle was hit by gunfire. Two passengers who were inside the vehicle were injured and were transported to a local hospital, announced the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokoudine.

In Kherson, the regional capital recaptured by Kiev in autumn 2022 and since then subjected to constant bombing, a man was also injured in a Russian attack, the local military administration declared.

Five other civilians were injured by gunfire in the towns of Mykhailivka and Berislav, according to local authorities.

Russian forces also hit the town of Monatchynivka in the Kharkiv region (northeast), causing the death of a woman who was in a “civilian vehicle” near a medical establishment and injuring her husband, the regional police said.

According to this source, two other civilians were injured in a bombing in the town of Vovtchansk, close to the Russian border.

Russian fire also hit a neighborhood in the city of Zaporijia (south), with two injured, said the head of the regional military administration.

From Wednesday night to today, artillery fire also reached the Dnipropetrovsk region, causing injuries to two civilians, according to the regional administration.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since the Second World War (1939-1945).

Ukraine’s Western allies have supplied weapons to Kiev and approved successive sanctions packages against Russian interests to try to diminish Moscow’s ability to finance the war effort.

Russian forces have been intensifying bombings against Ukraine, after Kiev forces launched a counteroffensive last summer, with little success.

The number of civilian and military casualties from the conflict is unknown, but several sources, including the UN, have warned that it will be high.
