AAt least 25 people have died in storms, rain, winds and tornadoes in the south central region of the United Stateswhere on Tuesday, May 28, more than 800,000 homes, offices and businesses lacked electricity supply.

Forecasters reported severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas over the Memorial Day weekend, including Sunday, which was the stormiest day of the year so far.
According to local authorities, at least five people died as a result of the storms in Kentucky, seven others, including two children, in Cooke County, Texass; two died in Oklahoma, eight in Arkansas and one in Virginia.
The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast extensive, very strong storms over much of Texas and southern Oklahoma, with damaging winds and large hail likely.
“The threat of excessive rainfall could create localized areas of flash flooding and urban flooding in Texas and Oklahoma“NWS added.
The Weather Channel, dedicated to weather forecasts, indicated the probability of heavy hail in a region of Texas that includes the cities of Amarillo to Austin, and from Dallas to Sanderson.

The extreme weather events occur when the Atlantic hurricane season has not yet officially begun, for which the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted an abundance of cyclones.
In that season, which begins on June 1 and ends on November 30, A total of between 17 and 25 tropical storms could form, of which about 13 could reach the category of hurricanes, and seven of them would qualify as major.
