Ohe United States “ruled the world for 500 years”, without “competition”, except during the Soviet period, began by arguing the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, this Thursday, in a press conference, cited by Sky News.
The North Americans are, however, “being overtaken”, as well as “other Western countries”, by “emerging and strengthened centers of economic growth”.
Without specifying which countries he was referring to, Lavrov stated that relations between Russia and China are going through “the best period in their history”.
Regarding US involvement in the growing violence in the Middle East, and its support for Israel, the Russian minister said that the US and the UK “have exceeded and basically trampled on all norms of international law, including the Council resolution of Security, which only called for the defense of commercial navigation”.
The US justifications for carrying out attacks in Yemen against Houti rebels have been “pathetic”, he considered, comparing them with the attacks that took place in Libya in 2011.
Lavrov reminded the United States and the United Kingdom that “no one authorized them to bomb Yemen, just as no one authorized NATO to bomb Libya in 2011.”
The Russian minister assured that by bombing Libya in 2011, Western powers transformed the North African country “into a black hole”.
Moscow condemned from the start the airstrikes against the Houthis, who are supported by Iran, in response to the Yemeni rebels’ missile launches at ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
This Wednesday, states launched a new wave of attacks against areas of Yemen controlled by Huthi rebels, hours after declaring the Shiite group “terrorist”, reported the United States Central Command (CENTCOM, in English).
A few hours earlier, CENTCOM had confirmed that a US ship had suffered a missile attack in the Gulf of Aden, located off the coast of Yemen, which caused no injuries.
Lavrov will personally participate, from January 22 to 24, in the UN Security Council debates on the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Russia began a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, triggering an armed conflict that, according to United Nations data, has already killed more than 10,000 civilians. The United States has strongly supported Kyiv, providing it with financial and military support.
At the same time, within the scope of the armed conflict between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas, the USA has also been criticized for its support for Tel Aviv.
