O Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Friday that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would not have happened if he had been in power.

“Shortly after winning the presidency, I will have resolved the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine. It would never have happened if I had been there“, said Trump, quoted by CNN Internacional, when speaking at the National Summit of Concerned Women for America, in Washington DC.

The former US president also said that he “used to talk to Putin [presidente da RĆŗssia] about it”, claiming that he told him not to do it [invadir a UcrĆ¢nia].

“As soon as I left, they started to form, and we had the disaster in Afghanistan, which I think was the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country,” he added.

The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine caused, according to the most recent UN data, the worst refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by most of the international community, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing it on Russia of political and economic sanctions.
