“O What is happening in the Gaza Strip is not a war, it is a genocide. What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people (…) already happened when Hitler decided to kill the Jews”, stated Lula da Silva.

“This is not a war of soldiers against soldiers. It is a war between a highly prepared Army and women and children,” he added.

The head of state of Brazil also condemned the attack by the Islamist movement Hamas, calling it a terrorist act.

The war was triggered by a Hamas attack on October 7 against southern Israel, which killed more than 1,160 people, most of them civilians, according to a count by France-Presse (AFP), the based on official Israeli data.

In retaliation, Israel launched an offensive in the Gaza Strip that left 28,775 dead, the vast majority of them civilians, according to the most recent report, released on Friday by the Hamas Ministry of Health.

Today, Brazil’s head of state also analyzed bilateral relations with his counterparts from Kenya, Nigeria and Libya, on the sidelines of the AU summit.

For his part, with the President of Libya, Mohamed al-Menfi, “the evolution of the country’s stability and the desire for greater proximity to Brazil” were discussed.

On Saturday, Lula da Silva had defended the reorganization of multilateral institutions, with the strengthening of the presence of countries in the global South.

“We need to create a new global governance, capable of facing the challenges of our time. Multipolarity is an inexorable and welcome component of the 21st century,” he stated.

The Brazilian head of state, who was one of those invited to participate in the 37th AU summit, highlighted that without developing countries “it will not be possible to open a new cycle of global expansion that combines growth, reduction of difficulties and environmental preservation with expansion of freedoms”.
