“Sand Congress doesn’t help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war”, declared Volodymyr Zelensky, in a serious tone, in a conference call with the ambassadors of the platform created by the Ukrainian president to collect donations and financing for Ukraine, United24.
At the end of March, Zelensky asked the President of the House of Representatives of the United States of America for a “rapid adoption” of the military aid program for his country, in a context of intensifying Russian attacks.
The program, valued at around 60,000 million dollars (around 55,630 million euros), has been blocked in Congress since last year.
“I informed the president of the House of Representatives [Mike] Johnson about the situation on the battlefield, in particular about the dramatic increase in Russian aerial terrorism,” said Zelensky, who spoke to the US official by phone.
Johnson, a Republican who controls the bills that are voted on in the House of Representatives, said he was looking at “a number of avenues” to help Ukraine.
The US has been Kiev’s main military support since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
He told the North American television station CBS News that Ukraine “needs help now”, although the current situation is better than two months ago.
“We have stabilized the situation. It is better than it was two or three months ago, when we had a large deficit of artillery ammunition,” said Zelensky.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, triggering the most serious security crisis in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
The number of civilian and military casualties from the conflict is unknown, but several sources, including the UN, have warned that it will be high.
