“OOur marines firmly hold the bridgehead” in Krynky, on the left (east) bank of the river in the Kherson region, he said in the Telegram.

“The enemy only managed to carry out a disinformation operation,” he added.

Last Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed a new military success with the capture of this bridgehead – a military term that designates a position on the other side of a river or sea, in enemy territory – and that the Ukraine has been ensuring this with a strong effort for several months now, a few days after the “chaotic escape” of Ukrainian forces from Avdiivka.

In 2023, the Ukrainian Army managed to form a bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper River, where Russian troops are concentrated near the Kherson region, and which Moscow has been trying to eliminate ever since.

“In fact, Krynky has been cleaned and in fact we control the entire river”, said Russian Defense Minister Serguei Shoigu, after Putin asked him, following images broadcast by the Russian media and an officer’s report, which confirm the achievement of this bridgehead.

This announcement came shortly after Russia’s conquest of the city of Avdiivka, eastern Ukraine, after months of fighting, with Putin ironizing the “chaotic escape” of Ukrainian forces.

“This chaotic escape occurred at the moment when the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces issued the withdrawal order to its forces that were already on the move and in retreat,” declared the Russian head of state during the meeting with Shoigu.

However, Zelensky assured today that this city marks the new defensive line.

“Avdiivka is a new defensive line,” he said, after Kyiv forces withdrew five days ago from the city, which is close to the regional capital of Donetsk.

Even today, and two days after the second anniversary of the start of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia claimed new territorial advances in the face of a Ukrainian Army on the defensive and with a shortage of weapons and ammunition.

In its daily report, the Russian Ministry of Defense assured that its Army seized the town of Pobeda, on the outskirts of the destroyed city of Marrinka, located near the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian military officials did not immediately confirm the loss of Pobeda as they assured that the Army “continues to fight in the area”.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since the Second World War (1939-1945).

Ukraine’s Western allies have supplied weapons to Kyiv and approved successive sanctions packages against Russian interests to try to diminish Moscow’s ability to finance the war effort.
