The daily report on the humanitarian impact of this war indicates that intense Israeli bombardment by air, land and sea against much of Gaza continues.
In the northern section of the enclave, Israeli forces attacked targets in Gaza City, rural Jabalia, Tal Az Zatar and Beit Laia and reports indicate that there were a large number of fatalities, mainly in the first location.
Likewise, attacks continued in the province of Deir al Balah and in the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, south of Gaza and where the population is concentrated.
The report also indicates that the United Nations Children’s Agency (UNICEF) found, through a field assessment carried out at the end of December, that 90% of children under two years of age consumed only some type of cereal (including bread) or milk.
At the same time, cases of diarrhea in children under five years of age rose to 3,200 new cases per day, compared with an average of 2,000 per month before the war.
“Time is running out. Many children are already suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Gaza. As the threat of famine intensifies, hundreds of thousands of children could soon suffer from severe malnutrition and some of them could die. We cannot allow this to happen”, warned UNICEF.
On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise attack against southern Israel with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen, taking two hundred hostages.
In response, Israel declared war on the Islamist movement that governs Palestine.
The war has so far caused around 23,000 deaths and more than 58,000 injuries among Palestinians since October 7, according to Palestinian sources.
