PAt least 14 people were injured, two of them seriously, following the fall of a tree next to a roller coaster at the PortAventura Word amusement park, located in Catalonia, Spain, this Sunday morning.
According to the company, the incident was due to “an episode of strong winds”, which affected the Tomahawk roller coaster.
“Some branches reached customers who were at the attraction”, added the entity, on the social network X (Twitter).
The theme park highlighted that the case is “completely unrelated to the operation and maintenance” of the roller coaster, which is subject to “strict inspections”.
The two injured men in critical condition were transferred by helicopter to Bellvitge Hospital and Joan XXIII University Hospital, according to authorities. Three other less serious cases were referred to health units nearby.
The Catalan police opened an investigation into the case.
