O United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he hoped Israel would increase aid access to the Gaza Strip, defining the situation in the territory as “absolutely desperate”.
“When the gates of aid close, the doors of hunger open. More than half the population – more than a million people – face catastrophic hunger”said Guterres, quoted by the BBC.
The UN Secretary-General argued that “children in Gaza today are dying from lack of food and water”, something that is “incomprehensible and completely avoidable”.
The United Nations claims that, since the October 7 attack, 196 humanitarian workers have been killed in the Gaza Strip. In this context, Israeli actions in the territory “require independent investigations”, as well as “significant changes on the ground”, said Guterres.
“We want to know why each one of them was killed,” he retorted.
