The actor and director George Clooneyan avowed Democrat who has participated in various presidential campaigns in the United States and has supported the reelection of President Joe Biden, joined the voices of his party on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, calling on the president to withdraw from the race and make way for a new candidate. He said that his opinion is privately shared by numerous congressmen and senators.

The American actor, who last month led a fundraising event with actress Julia Roberts, made clear his support for Biden as a senator, vice president and as president. “I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals. “Over the past four years, he has won many of the battles he has faced,” the Hollywood star said in an opinion piece published in the New York Times.

But Clooney, one of the latest actors to join the re-election campaign, also said that “The only battle (Biden) can’t win is the fight against time. None of us can.”he said, recalling that the Biden who is now seeking re-election is not the same as the one from 2010, when he was vice president.

“It’s devastating to say, but the Joe Biden I stood with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe Biden… of 2010, he wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all saw at the debate,” she said in the op-ed.

Biden faced off against Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump in a debate that many say, including a large section of Democratic leaders, made it clear that the president must withdraw from the race, in response to which names have begun to be considered as possible replacements.

“Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw. We’re all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve chosen to ignore all the warning signs.”

“Is it fair to point out these things? It has to be. It’s about age. Nothing more, but nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president.”he said, adding that Democrats will lose their chance to control Congress if Joe Biden continues as a candidate.

“This is not just my opinion. It is the opinion of all the congressmen and governors with whom I have spoken privately,” he said.
