O US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a surprise visit to Ukraine this Wednesday, where he met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
The pair starred, at the end of the day, in a ridiculous moment, when they decided to have dinner at a McDonald’s restaurant in Kyiv, in front of the curious eyes of journalists.
Blinken and Kuleba shared stories about the iconic US fast-food brand, as the American munched on his fries – no ketchup because he’s “a purist” – and the Ukrainian his cherry pie.
“When I was a student, my best hangover food was McDonald’s. I’d go and buy a double cheeseburger, a large Coke, and that would be my hangover breakfast,” Kuleba joked, prompting Blinken to wryly reply, “I bet it was a rare occasion. It never happened to me.”
“You should eat something!” Blinken joked with journalists, who retorted: “We already ate, we were here waiting for you.”
The Secretary of State also joked that, after his meeting with Kuleba, “he thought it would be appropriate to ensure that it was celebrated with some french fries and a cherry pie”.
