UAn accident involving two trains in the city of Pardubice, in the Czech Republic, left at least two dead and dozens injured this Wednesday.

Martin Kavka, spokesman for railway operator Správa železnic, told AFP that a passenger train collided with a freight train.

“I can confirm the death of two people. The number could increase,” said the official, adding that authorities are still rescuing people from the trains.

News channel CT24 writes that the accident happened at around 11pm (10pm in mainland Portugal), near the main railway station of Pardubice, around 100 kilometers east of the capital Prague.

According to Martin Kavka, there were around 200 passengers on the train, which was heading to the Slovak city of Kosice.

Interior Minister Vít Rakušan and Transport Minister Martin Kupka have already gone to the site.

The police also confirmed the accident on social media, where several videos are already circulating.
