Earthquake with magnitude of 6.1 felt on the Indonesian island of Timor

O The earthquake occurred at a depth of 36.1 kilometers on the island to the east of the archipelago, with its epicenter approximately 21 kilometers northeast of the city of Kupang (Indonesia), where it was felt with great intensity, according to a journalist from the AFP agency, not there is, at least for now, a record of victims.

Daryono, who heads the Earthquake and Tsunami Center at the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency, said that the earthquake was felt with great intensity in several villages and cities, which caused moments of panic.

“The earthquake caused slight damage to several buildings and houses,” wrote Daryono (who uses a single name) via the social network X (formerly Twitter), indicating that there is no danger of a tsunami.

According to AP, several videos circulating on social media show the inhabitants of Kupang in panic, with houses and several buildings shaking.

There are reports that the roof of the offices of the governor of East Nusa Tenggara province (of which Kupang is the capital) and the mayor’s office were damaged.

Indonesia is a seismically active archipelago, frequently hit by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.
