O Former national security advisor, John Bolton, warned that the US could leave NATO if Donald Trump wins the US presidential elections in November.

“I think he will try to leave,” revealed Bolton, who considered that “NATO will be in danger” if Trump wins a second term. The statements were made to CNN International journalist Jim Sciutto, who gathered testimonies from several of the former president’s former advisors in a book entitled ‘The Return of Great Powers’, released on Monday.

John Kelly, who also served Donald Trump as White House chief of staff, stated that the former president of USA “didn’t see any use in NATO”. “He [Trump] I thought Putin was a cool guy and Kim (Jong-un) was a cool guy and we had pushed North Korea into a corner,” Kelly recalled. “For him, it was as if we were provoking these guys. If we didn’t have NATO, Putin wouldn’t be doing these things“, he stated.

Remember that, this week, Donald Trump said that, if re-elected, he will encourage Russia to “do whatever it wants” in relation to NATO debtor countries. The comments were criticized by the transatlantic alliance, with Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg considering that they “undermine everyone’s security”.

“NATO remains ready and capable of defending all its allies. Any attack on NATO will be met with a united and vigorous response,” Stoltenberg said in a statement.

In turn, Joe Biden considered his opponent’s comments to be “distressing and dangerous”. For the Democrat, Trump’s comments mean “his willingness to abandon America’s allies who are members of NATO in the event of a Russian attack.”

Donald Trump responded this Tuesday to criticism and defended that he made the Atlantic Alliance strong during his term in office. “I made NATO strong and even the radical left Democrats and fake Republicans admit that,” said Donald Trump, through his network, Truth Social.
