“FI was hit by a bullet that pierced the top of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, in the first reactions to the attack he was the target of this Saturday.
Former President Donald Trump added that at the time of the attack he heard “a whizzing sound, gunshots, and immediately felt a bullet rip through his skin.”
Trump also thanked “the U.S. Secret Service, and all law enforcement, for their quick response to the Butler shooting.”
“I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person who was at the rally and who was killed, and also to the family of the other person who was seriously injured,” he said.
“It is incredible that an act like this could take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is dead,” it reads.

Trump had just begun to speak when loud bangs began to be heard.
According to the AP, also at the scene, the Republican candidate quickly crouched down as his bodyguards accompanied him from the stage to his car.
The former US president raised his fist in defiance, to applause from his supporters.
The attack left two people dead, one of whom was the shooter. The US press also reported that two people were injured.
This was Donald Trump’s final rally before the Republican convention, where he will officially be nominated as the Republican Party’s candidate against Democratic President Joe Biden in the November election.
