A US Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday demanded that former US President Donald Trump be held accountable for the invasion of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“Everyone is entitled to their day in court, absolutely, but people should be held accountable. Under our legal system, by the way. Let the evidence, the facts, take the situation where it needs to be taken,” Harris said in an interview with the Associated Press.

From Jakarta, Indonesia, where she represents the US at an ASEAN summit, Harris recalled her times as a prosecutor. “I believe that people should be held accountable before the law. And when they break the law, there must be accountability. I support when that happens,” he continued.

Trump was indicted twice last month and faces charges related to his alleged efforts to annul the 2020 presidential election. In total, the former Republican president has four indictments since leaving the Executive.

In January 2021, just months after Trump’s electoral defeat in the 2020 presidential elections, thousands of supporters of the former president invaded the country’s Capitol, resulting in the death of five people, hundreds of injuries and material damage.
