O The man who attacked the husband of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a raid on the couple’s home has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

According to The New York Times, David DePape was convicted of two federal crimes: attempted kidnapping of a federal employee and assault on a direct family member of a federal employee.

It is recalled that DePape had found guilty in November 2023. During the trial, he admitted that he had invaded the house of the former leader of the House of Representatives and carried out the attack – as he had already done in interviews with the police and the media.

However, the man claimed he never intended to hurt Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi.

Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the US House of Representatives at the time of the attack, raising fears of politically motivated violence in the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections.

Paul Pelosi reported at the time that the raid on the couple’s home in the Pacific Heights neighborhood was part of a plan to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and interrogate her about an alleged corrupt conspiracy led by her and other prominent liberal figures.

The sentence imposed by the judge was in line with what prosecutors requested, which was maximum sentences for each crime – 20 years for the kidnapping charge and 30 years for the assault charge.

However, he denied the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s request for ten years of these sentences to be served consecutively. Instead, the sentences will be served concurrently.
