“AWe warn of a global catastrophe and massacre that could leave tens of thousands of martyrs and injured if there is an invasion of Rafah province”, says a statement from the press office of the Gaza Government, controlled by Hamas.

The group says it holds “the US administration, the international community and the Israeli occupation fully accountable.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday ordered the Army to develop a plan to expand the military offensive on Rafah, which includes the prior displacement of civilians.

The Gaza Government recalled that 1.4 million Palestinians currently live in Rafah province, of which 1.3 million were displaced by violence in other parts of the enclave, which “foreshadows a major catastrophe”.

He further accused Israel of having already carried out “thousands of massacres in the rest of the provinces of the Gaza Strip during the current war of genocide”.

“We demand the immediate and urgent convening of the United Nations Security Council and the adoption of a resolution that ensures that the ‘Israeli’ occupation is forced to stop the genocidal war it is committing against civilians, children and women in the Gaza Strip “, said the group in power in the Gaza Strip.

The president of the Palestinian Authority – which governs small areas of the occupied West Bank -, Mahmoud Abbas, said on Friday that the Israeli plan to expand the offensive on Rafah is part of the strategy to “displace the Palestinian people from their lands” and called for the international community acts to prevent it.

The US administration and the UN have also warned Israel in recent days of the “disaster” that a military offensive on Rafah would take place without a clear civilian displacement plan.

At least 25 people have been killed in recent hours in Israeli bombings in Rafah, where airstrikes have increased in recent days.

Almost 28,000 Gazans have died in more than four months of war, in addition to around eight thousand bodies missing under the rubble, and around 67,500 injured, according to the Strip’s Ministry of Health, under the control of Hamas.
