A A poll by ABC News and The Washington Post reveals that only 30% of voters believe that Biden should remain in the race, at 81 years old and after the televised debate on June 27, which once again raised doubts about his mental agility and ability to serve a second four-year term.
Only 42% of Democratic voters believe Biden should stay in the race, while more than 70% of independent voters — who could be a key player in winning the White House — believe Biden should drop out and make way for Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate.
The poll indicates that voting intentions at a national level remain the same – with 46% for both Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump – while in a hypothetical confrontation between Harris and Trump, the current vice president would obtain 49% of the votes against 47%.
The poll was conducted between July 5 and 9 (after the televised debate) with more than 2,400 American adults and has a margin of error of 2%.
