One person died and eight were injured after part of the roof of an airport terminal collapsed in New Delhi, India, due to torrential rains, according to local firefighters.

“Eight people were injured, one person died. Rescue operations have ended,” “Atul Garg, director of the Indian capital’s fire services, told AFP.

Several vehicles were crushed by falling beams giant steel bars in the departures area of ‚Äč‚ÄčTerminal 1, according to images posted online.

This terminal, which is only used for internal flights, is one of the many projects inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March ahead of the general elections in the country.

All departure flights that were scheduled at this terminal were canceled until early afternoon, airport authorities announced.

“Due to heavy rains early this morning, part of the roof collapsed at around five o’clock in the morning,” they stated in a statement.
