It is on Instagram that content creator @bienmangeravecclyd gave his simple tip for recycling lemon peels. The goal ? Make a powder to create your own homemade spices as the young woman explains: “Lemon pepper, you can buy it ready-made but frankly, it’s better to make it at home!”. And in addition to being quick and simple, this technique is also much more economical than if you bought this mixture commercially.

The icing on the cake is that you can adapt this tip to other citrus fruits such as orange or grapefruit, but also with onion or shallot. This will be ideal for adding some pep to your recipes.

To make this lemon powder, choose organic fruits to ensure that there are no pesticides. Start by spreading your peelings on a baking sheet and bake them for 30 minutes at 100°C. The goal of this step is to remove all the moisture from the fruit. Then mix the peelings for a few minutes to obtain a powder. Continue with mortar if necessary.

Then add the pepper powder and you will get your new spice totally “amazing for seasoning chicken, fish or a marinade”.
