“OThe surroundings of the village of Rojdestvenska, in the Graivoron district, were attacked by the Ukrainian armed forces with three ‘drones'”, said Vyacheslav Gladkov on social media, quoted by the French agency AFP.

The governor of Belgorod stated that “the explosions killed two people and seriously injured a third”.

Gladkov had previously said that the air defense system had shot down five unmanned aircraft launched by Ukrainian forces this morning, according to Russian news agency TASS.

The Belgorod region, like other regions bordering Ukraine, has been the target of almost daily attacks with drones, missiles and artillery for months.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian military intelligence claimed responsibility for a drone attack on an oil depot in the village of Dolgoe, about 90 kilometers north of Belgorod, the regional capital.

The city of Belgorod was the target of a particularly deadly Ukrainian attack in late December, in which 25 people died and more than a hundred were injured.

It was the bloodiest attack on civilians in Russia since the start of Russia’s large-scale offensive against Ukraine in February 2022.

Hundreds of people, especially children, were evacuated from Belgorod after the attack.
