O US President Joe Biden announced this Tuesday, “equipment to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses” during his speech at the NATO summit, taking place in Washington, USA, and assured that “Ukraine can and will stop Putin”.

Biden began by talking about the formation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) after World War II in an attempt to “respond quickly to threats” and “prevent future wars and protect democracy.”

Mentioning September 11, 2001, the US president recalled that the allies “stood with us and invoked Article 5 for the first time in NATO history.” “An attack on one is an attack on all”he emphasized.

In this sense, he stated that “NATO is stronger than ever”with 32 nations, giving the example of Finland and Sweden, which joined the Alliance not only because their leaders wanted to, but because their citizens requested it “in overwhelming numbers”.

“This moment in history demands our collective defense,” Biden said, referring to the war in Ukraine, “a war that Putin just wants the total submission of Ukraine and thus eradicate Ukraine from the map“.

“Don’t be fooled. Ukraine can and will stop Putin. And he has our full support,” Biden said, to loud applause from the room.

“Together we have provided significant humanitarian and economic support to Ukraine, as well as the means for Ukraine to defend itself… Tanks, long-range missiles, millions of rounds of ammunition. The United States and its allies have signed bilateral agreements with Ukraine,” Biden stressed, announcing, then, the supply of additional air defenses to Ukraine.

We will provide a historic donation of equipment to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses. The U.S. will ensure that when we export these systems, they reach the front lines.“, he would have said.

At stake is a joint effort by the US, Germany, the Netherlands and Romania, which will supply Ukraine with four Patriot air defense systems in the coming months, while Italy will supply a SAMP-T system, thus responding to the main requests that Kyiv had been making.

Biden credits that “Russia is failing two years into this war of choice”with more than “300,000 Russian troops wounded or killed”. However, he guarantees that “we will continue standing, just as we have done until now”.

“Russia will not prevail, but Ukraine will prevail. This is a turning point for Europe and the world. We always choose freedom over tyranny. War will end with a free Ukraine“, he added

The announcement comes at a critical moment in Ukraine’s defense against Russian invasion, a day after deadly Russian strikes devastated Ukraine’s largest pediatric hospital.

Finally, Biden presented NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

It is the highest civilian award in the US and comes as Stoltenberg prepares to step down as NATO leader.
