“EWe stand in solidarity with the people of Russia who mourn the loss of life following this horrific event,” Blinken wrote on social media site X.

Hours after the attack, claimed by the terrorist organization Islamic State, White House Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said that the United States had alerted the Russian government to the possibility of a “terrorist attack.”

On March 7, the US State Department warned that the embassy in Russia was “following reports” about “imminent plans” by an extremist group to attack “large gatherings in Moscow”, advising fellow Americans to avoid “large groups of people”.

According to Russian authorities, at least 133 people died after gunmen fired on Friday night at hundreds of people who were in a concert hall in a shopping center on the outskirts of the Russian capital.
