O Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says working with Donald Trump, if he is re-elected as US president, will be “hard work”, but assured: “We are hard workers”.
In an exclusive interview with the BBC in London, Zelensky said he was willing to work with whoever was in power in the US.
Trump recently announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate in November’s election. The 39-year-old has said in the past that he “doesn’t care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.”
The appointment has renewed fears that US engagement in Ukraine could weaken if Trump returns to the White House. “Maybe he doesn’t really care, but we have to work with the United States,” Zelensky told the BBC.
The Ukrainian leader is in the UK for a meeting of the European Political Community, where he delivered a speech on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, he met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who promised to support Ukraine “for as long as necessary” and pledged to spend £3 billion on aid to the country.
