O attack on Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza city is provoking reactions from leaders and entities all over the world. In total, at least 500 people have already died and the number could increase substantially. The attack is condemned by the entire international community, having already been dubbed “horrible”, “unprecedented brutality” and “a savage war crime”.

The Israeli Prime Minister has already denied that Israeli forces were responsible for the attack and stressed that “it was barbaric terrorists” who committed the crime.

“The whole world should know: it was barbaric terrorists who attacked the hospital in Gaza, and not the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Those who brutally murdered our children also murder their own children,” he declared in a statement published online social X (formerly Twitter).

The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Cravinho, considered this news to be “horrendous and shocking”.

“The news from Gaza is horrendous and shocking. Hundreds of innocent people were killed in a hospital. In the UNRWA school, also bombed, there were more deaths. These targets are not military”, stated the minister, making an “urgent appeal” for “respect permanent basis of international humanitarian law”.

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, demanded that responsibility for the explosion be clearly clarified.

“The news reaching us from the Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist hospital in Gaza adds horror to the tragedy that has been unfolding before our eyes for days. Once again, innocent civilians pay the highest price. Responsibility for this crime must be clearly established and its authors must be held responsible”, he said on the social network X.

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that “nothing can justify the attack on a hospital” and “nothing justifies targeting civilians.”

“France condemns the attack on the Al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza, which claimed so many Palestinian victims. Our thoughts are with them. It is necessary to shed light on the circumstances,” he said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared it “unprecedented brutality”.

“Targeting a hospital where innocent women, children and civilians were housed is the most recent example of Israel’s attacks devoid of the most basic human values. I invite all of humanity to take action to put an end to this unprecedented brutality in Gaza,” he said.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the airstrike “horrible and absolutely unacceptable.”

Sky News details that the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also spoke out strongly condemning the attack, while Iran called it a “savage war crime”.

Foreign Minister James Cleverly said the UK would work with its allies to “find out what happened” after the explosion at al Ahli hospital in Gaza city.

“The destruction of Al Ahli hospital is a devastating loss of life. The UK has been clear. Protecting civilian lives must come first. The UK will work with our allies to find out what happened and protect those innocent civilians in Gaza,” he declared.

For its part, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs classified the attack as a “dangerous escalation”.

Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf said the attack should be “unequivocally condemned in the strongest possible terms”.

“There can be no justification for this. None. If people cannot be safe in a hospital, where can they be? This attack must be unequivocally condemned in the strongest possible terms. A ceasefire is needed now. Innocent men, women and children must be allowed to leave Gaza,” Yousaf wrote on social media.

Egypt described the attack as “a dangerous violation” of international humanitarian law (IHL).

“This deliberate attack against civilian targets constitutes a dangerous violation of IHL and fundamental human values”, declared the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, “strongly” condemned the attack and called for the protection of innocent civilians.

“The first information indicates hundreds of deaths and injuries. We call for the immediate protection of civilians and health care and the reversal of evacuation orders,” he said.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) revealed that they were “horrified” by the bombing.

“We are horrified by the recent Israeli bombing of the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, which was treating patients and hosting displaced Gazans. Hundreds of people are believed to have been killed. This is a massacre. It is absolutely unacceptable,” they stated in a publication.

The Archbishop of Canterbury considered that it was a “terrible and devastating loss of innocent lives”.

“This is a terrible and devastating loss of innocent lives. Ahli hospital is run by the Anglican Church. I mourn with our brothers and sisters – please pray for them. I renew my call for civilians to be protected in this devastating war”, he declared.

Hamas classified the “horrific massacre” as a “crime of genocide” against the victims, attributing it to Israeli forces.

“This fact also exposes American and Western support for this criminal occupation. The international community and Arab and Islamic countries must assume their responsibilities and intervene immediately, now and not tomorrow, to put an end to the arrogance of the occupation and its fascist army , and hold them responsible for the genocide they have been committing for the eleventh consecutive day in the already blocked area”, reads the statement from the Hamas group published on the social network Telegram.

In turn, responsibility for the attack was attributed to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization by the Israeli Army, Reuters reported.

“According to intelligence information, based on various sources we obtained, Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket attack that hit the hospital,” the Israeli Army highlighted in a statement.

These allegations were also denied by an Islamic Jihad spokesperson, Sky News revealed.

It should be remembered that Israel has been on high alert since October 7, when Palestinian fighters from the Islamist movement Hamas attacked the south of the country on several fronts from the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and capturing others 155, held captive in Gaza and some of them killed in the meantime — according to Hamas, by Israeli bombings.

It was an offensive supported by the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah and the Palestinian branch of Islamic Jihad.

In the Gaza Strip, controlled by Hamas – a group classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel – and to which Israel imposed a total siege, cutting off water, fuel and electricity supplies, strong Israeli retaliation killed and injured several thousand people, including hundreds of children.
