O former president of Russia and current vice-president of the country’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, stated that Moscow has no plans to attack any NATO country, something that “it is clear to all sensible people in the West”.

According to Medvedev, on the VKontakte platform, cited by Tass, NATO’s Steadfast Defender 2024 exercise, the largest since the end of the Cold War, is about “playing with fire in a very dangerous way”.

We do not intend to attack any of the NATO members. This is clear to all sensible people in the West. However, if they allow themselves to be fooled and usurp the integrity of our country, they will immediately receive an appropriate response.”Medvedev pointed out, adding that “this will mean one thing – a big war that NATO will not be able to prevent.”

NATO’s Steadfast Defender 2024 exercise is taking place in Europe from February to May. Thirty-one member states and Sweden, hoping to join the Alliance, participate in the exercises.

Steadfast, which in the coming months will mobilize up to 90,000 troops on both sides of the Atlantic, should, among other military objectives, verify the Alliance’s ability to quickly mobilize and transport North American troops to strengthen the defense of Europe.
