O The announcement was made by the head of Italian diplomacy, Antonio Tajani, in Munich, Germany, stressing that the interest of all G7 countries “is the protection of all civilians, especially women and children”.

The United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Italy, which holds the rotating presidency, also showed their commitment to Ukraine today, at a meeting of their foreign ministers, on the sidelines of the Security Conference, during which a minute of silence was observed by the leader of the Russian opposition, Alexei Navalni.

“We call for an immediate suspension of fighting, both to guarantee the release of Israeli hostages” in the hands of Hamas, “and to help Palestinian civilians,” said Antonio Tajani.

The G7’s position is to “guarantee the security of the State of Israel” and is working “towards defusing” the situation in the Middle East, with the ultimate goal of reaching a “two peoples, two states” solution.

“We are working together with the European Union and the G7 on a solution” that “leads to mutual recognition of the independence of the two countries, because only then will the issue be resolved. It is not just about the current conflict, but about planning a strategy to the future”, said the Italian minister.

“It’s obvious that someone doesn’t want” this solution, but “we want peace and an end to this carnage that led to the deaths of thousands of civilians”, he maintained.

Antonio Tajani recalled some traumatic scenes told to him by victims of the Hamas attack on October 7 and stated that the Islamist group is responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians, but argued that “the time has come” to look forward, when asked on whether Italy intends to recognize Palestine.

The head of Italian diplomacy also explained that the G7 “supports the work of the Palestinian National Authority (ANP) and calls for its reform so that it can become a protagonist in the life of Gaza”.
