O Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan regretted that the United States vetoed the proposal to make Palestine a full member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

“It is unfair that Palestine cannot become a member of the UN. We call on the international community to oppose this injustice and recognize the State of Palestine,” Fidan said in a press conference cited by the Al Jazeera agency.

Fidan met with his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, in Istanbul.

At the meeting, the “ongoing massacre” in the Gaza Strip was discussed.

Both Turkey and Mauritania are in “great solidarity” with the Palestinians, calling for an “urgent ceasefire and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid.”
