A spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, promised this Saturday that Moscow will retaliate for the Ukrainian attack against a Russian oil tanker late Friday night in the Kerch Strait.
“The Kyiv regime, without being condemned by Western countries and international organizations, is actively applying new terrorist methods, this time in the waters of the Black Sea“, he stated.
“There can be no justification for such barbaric actions, they will not go unanswered and their perpetrators and perpetrators will inevitably be punished.”he added.
Ukraine attacked a Russian oil tanker in the Kerch Strait late Friday evening (local time), a source from the Ukrainian security services (SBU) told AFP.
The attack, day after day, against a warship on a Russian military base in the Black Sea, heightens tension in the region between Russians and Ukrainians.
According to information, the ship suffered a hole in the waterline in the engine room area. The boat had 11 people on board and several crew members were injured by flying glass during the attack.
The number of attacks in the region has increased on both sides since Moscow refused, in mid-July, to renew the agreement negotiated by the UN that allowed the export of Ukrainian cereals through the Black Sea, despite the war that began with the Russian invasion of the region. Ukraine, on February 24, 2022.
Both Kyiv and Moscow announced, after the breakdown of the agreement, reached for the first time in July 2022, that all ships sailing in the waters of the Black Sea will be considered military cargo transport.
