Although the movement of Chinese planes and ships has been common for months in the vicinity of the security line, China has been increasing the positioning of these observation balloons for some time, which Taiwan also considers a pressure maneuver.
The number of balloons recorded this time is the highest observed in a single day since Taiwan decided, in December, to publicize the sighting of these devices.
On Friday, the US State Department said that the Chinese balloon that flew over the United States last week was equipped with espionage and not meteorological tools, according to images collected by US military planes.
The balloon “had several antennas, a set capable of collecting and geolocating communications” and “was equipped with solar panels large enough to provide the energy necessary to operate several information-gathering sensors,” said a US State Department official. .
