“O“United States C-130s dropped more than 27,600 food packages and 25,900 bottles of water into northern Gaza, an area of great need, allowing civilians access to critical aid,” the command said.

The operation, carried out at 14:27 in Gaza (12:27 in Lisbon), involved several Air Force C-130 planes and soldiers specializing “in the aerial delivery of humanitarian assistance supplies”.

Centcom, based at an air base in Tampa, Florida, said aid deliveries to “alleviate the suffering” of the Gaza population will continue, according to a statement cited by Spanish agency Europa Press.

Last week, one of these deliveries proved fatal for five people, who died after being hit by the packages due to parachute failure.

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas described the initiative as futile and called for an immediate ceasefire and for Israel to allow humanitarian aid to enter.

Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip has caused more than 31,100 deaths in five months, according to authorities from the Hamas government, which has controlled the Palestinian enclave since 2007.

Israel declared war on Hamas after suffering an unprecedented attack on October 7, which caused around 1,200 deaths and two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
