How about refining that special afternoon snack you’ll make for your friends? Try the delicious walnut braid!

Dough Ingredients

  • 5 cups of sifted wheat flour
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • ½ cup of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons dry yeast for bread
  • 1 cup (tea) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 2/3 cup (tea) vegetable fat

Filling and Covering Ingredients

  • 1 cup (tea) ground walnuts
  • 1 cup (tea) brown sugar
  • ½ cup of glitter jelly

Preparation Mode

  1. Grease and sprinkle with wheat flour a large baking tray.
  2. In a pan, mix the milk, sugar, salt and fat. Over low heat, heat enough for the fat to melt. Let it cool.
  3. In a bowl, sprinkle the yeast over the warm water.
  4. Add the warm milk mixture, eggs and 2 cups of wheat flour. Beat until smooth.
  5. Add the remaining flour until you get a soft dough.
  6. On a smooth surface sprinkled with flour, knead the dough for 5 minutes, adding flour little by little until the dough no longer sticks to your hands. Be careful not to add excess flour.
  7. Place the dough in a greased container, cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
  8. Remove, knead the dough quickly and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Heat the oven to medium temperature.
  10. Divide the dough in half, roll out each half of the dough with a rolling pin until you get a rectangle measuring 30 x 40cm.
  11. Mix the walnuts and sugar and sprinkle over both doughs. Roll it up along the longest side and press the ends so the filling doesn’t escape.
  12. Using a knife, cut each roulade in half lengthwise, leaving 3 cm uncut. Braid the two halves.
  13. Do the same with the other roulade. Place the roulades on the baking tray. Let it rest for another 20 minutes.
  14. Place in the oven to bake for approximately 40 minutes or until golden.
  15. Remove from the oven and brush over the slightly warmed jelly.
  16. Serve warm.
