“NThis winter, Russian terrorists will try again to destroy our electrical system”, highlighted the Ukrainian head of state in his usual daily evening message posted on social media.
Zelensky assured that the Ukrainian authorities are “fully aware of the danger.”
The official added that Ukrainians are preparing to “protect installations for the production and supply of electricity and heat, restoring everything that was damaged by the attacks.”
“It is very important to win this winter, overcome all difficulties and guarantee the protection of our people”, underlined Zelensky.
Last winter was marked by a wave of Russian bombings against Ukrainian infrastructure, which regularly plunged millions of people into cold and darkness.
Zelensky revealed this Thursday that he received “clear agreements” from the Europeans to obtain new anti-aircraft systems, as Kyiv has been demanding for months.
Also this Thursday, the Ukrainian president asked the leaders of around 50 European countries for “a defense shield for the winter” against Russia, given the different types of attacks, highlighting the need to “save the unity of Europe”.
“Russia will attack us with information, disinformation, among others, that is why it is important that Ukraine has a defense shield for the winter”, said Volodymyr Zelensky upon arrival at the third summit of the European Political Community, in the city Spanish from Granada.
The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine caused, according to the most recent UN data, the worst refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by most of the international community, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing Russia from political and economic sanctions.
