Some beings, even in the worst scenarios, are not willing to receive help when they need it most. This was the case of a small Chihuahua dog who did not take kindly to the fact that a group of firefighters had to come to his rescue in the middle of the waters.
The curious events, shared by the Houston Botanic Garden, occurred on Friday, November 29, 2024. Apparently, Botanical garden staff were alerted that a small dog was hanging from one of the foundations of the pedestrian bridge over the Sims Bayou canal.

“This Black Friday was a Chihuahua’s lucky day, thanks to our heroes at Houston Fire Department Stations 29 and 42… We love knowing that everyone and everything in and around the Garden is in good hands with these helpers community workers trained on the job“said those in charge.
In some images shared by the entity, the small dog is seen crestfallen in the middle of the platform. Later, a firefighter approaches him to try to get him to safety. Despite the pet’s refusal, they were able to get him out of the waters and wrap him in some towels to dry him.

What happened to the dog?
After saving the dog, rescuer Judy Hausler stayed with the pet while she tried to find her family or, failing that, a new home. The viralization of the rescue allowed its owners to recognize it and go claim it.
On the morning of November 30, the family of the chihuahua, whose name is Burbie, met Hausler and had an emotional reunion with their beloved pet. “She got very emotional, because when they jumped out of the car and I had her in my arms, wrapped in this blanket that I let her keep, everyone was crying.“, commented the rescuer to Khuo 11.
According to the owners, the canine was lost on November 25 after it ran out of the house. It had been difficult for them to find him, since he was not wearing a necklace that would identify him.
“We are so grateful for the efforts of first responders and everyone involved in helping us bring our baby home. “I don’t think there is anything we can do to compensate for the efforts of those involved, but I will say that I am very grateful,” the dog’s handlers said.
The rescuers were emphatic about the importance of pets being identified, which is why they recommended implanting a chip so that what could have been a tragedy does not happen again.
