The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this January 14, 2025 the creation of a body to “collect tariffs, levies and all income from foreign sources”, comparing it to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which collects taxes from Americans.
“We will begin to charge those who profit from trade at our expense, and they will begin to pay, FINALLY, what they are entitled to,” he said in a message on his social network, Truth Social.
As it progressed, the External Revenue Service (External Revenue Service, in English), as it will be called, will be launched next Monday, the day on which Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States and when he is expected to make the first decisions of his second term.

In addition, the Republican criticized “the soft and pathetically weak trade agreements” in force until now.
“The American economy has provided growth and prosperity to the world, while taxing ourselves,” he assured.
Donald Trump shows enthusiasm with the creation of new tariffs
Trump has been insisting on putting more tariffs for months and has even declared that ‘Tariff’ is, for him, “the most beautiful word in the dictionary.”
Among other things, Trump announced that he will impose a 25% tariff on Mexico already Canada on all products entering the country and contemplated another 10% on Chinese products until that country stops the arrival of fentanyl.
Although it did not give more details of the operation of this new service, it is understood that it will be this body that will collect these tariffs, if they end up coming into force.
However, the United States already has the IRS to collect taxes.
