Insects in pasta, really? No, it’s not science fiction! Because since February 10, the larva powder of “Tenebrio Molitor” (in other words, flour worms) is now authorized for product certain foods, including pasta, bread or even pastries and even cheeses.
Rest assured, the use of this powder, previously treated with ultraviolet, will be very framed. For the moment, 3.5 grams of flour verse powder can be used in cakes, and up to 4 grams in the bread.
Manufacturers will also have the obligation to mention the presence of insects in the list of ingredients.

Before being authorized for the manufacture of food products, this flour worm powder has been studied at length, in particular by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). She estimated that his consumption posed no health risk. The institution specifies, however, that “Consumption of evaluated insect proteins can potentially cause allergic reactions“especially at”subjects suffering from pre -existing allergies to crustaceans, mites and in certain cases to molluscs“.

By authorizing this Faine verse powder, the European Union thus expands alternatives to meat. Indeed, insects are rich in protein and could therefore advantageously replace the meat products.
