One of the six opponents taking refuge in the Argentine embassy in Venezuela He left the diplomatic headquarters last Thursday to place himself at the command of the authorities, who granted him conditional freedom, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Fernando Martínez Mottola was an advisor to the opposition alliance Democratic Unity Platform (PUD), which denounces fraud in the re-election of President Nicolás Maduro and claims the victory of its candidate Edmundo González in the July 28 elections.

He took refuge in the Argentine residence in Caracas on March 21, a day after five other close collaborators of opposition leader María Corina Machado did the same. They are all accused of conspiring against the Maduro government.

“He voluntarily appeared at the main headquarters of the Public Ministry in Caracas Mr. Fernando Martínez Mottola,” the Prosecutor’s Office indicated in a statement this Friday.

About this fact and the current situation of the other asylum seekers in the Argentine embassy, Eugenia Olavarría, daughter of the opposition member Magalli Meda -who is also sheltered in the embassy-, spoke with Noticias Caracol live.

What do you know about Fernando Martínez’s voluntary surrender?

“The reasons are definitely not known. Fernando left the embassy and these are moments of great nervousness, especially regarding January 10. One does not know to what extent these people (Maduro regime) can violate international rights and cling to lies and defamation. What I can say is that Fernando Martínez is not necessarily a member of Vente – a political movement – beyond being an advisor to María Corina and a friend of Vente. So, your strategies or your reasons are personal, I have the same information as all of you.”

Why is his mother, Magalli Meda, still in the Argentine embassy?

“She is there because she was accused of terrorism and treason and, as many know in Venezuela, when they accuse you of something, there is no right to defense, there is no right to absolutely anything, they simply kidnap you and put you in prison. There have already been these false and horrifying accusations of hate speech and all those trashy laws that these people invent so regularly. She is there for international protection. “Let it be clear that none of the Vente Venezuela opposition, much less those who are in that embassy, have weapons or all the terror strategies that the regime does have.”

How is your mother at the Argentine embassy?

“She is very impressed and very astonished with the level of cynicism of the regime and those who defend it, but at the same time with a lot of faith and confidence in a job well done and grateful for the courage of Edmundo González Urrutia, who has been also a man with extreme courage, discipline and focus; and it has also allowed this to get to where it has and we are not going to stop.”

What was your mother’s role in the opposition’s political campaign?

“She is campaign manager, they had to face completely absurd obstacles, they sanctioned and expropriated businesses of people who simply provided them with a service. They were victims of harassment. In Venezuela arrest warrants are issued, there is no legal process because the institutions in Venezuela are completely controlled by this dictatorship. There was always speculation that they were going after her and the moment it became a tangible reality, they acted quickly, asking for help for her and Henry Alviarez, who put him in prison and has been in torture centers for months; Dignora Hernández, who is also an exceptional person, a very dear teacher, and Perkins Rocha, a constitutional lawyer and an important right hand of María Corina, who overnight decide to send the order and you can let that torture you and that’s why “We have so many of our politicians in exile.”

“My mother was not going to abandon her responsibilities because my mother delegates; “She has a lot of people who support her and who work for Vente, which is a great family.”
