Through a video broadcast on social networks, the former opposition candidate in the last presidential elections in Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, addressed the world to talk about the current political and social situation in your country.
After the self-proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as president of Venezuela, González Urrutia expressed that “Today, in Caracas, Maduro has violated the constitution and the sovereign will of Venezuelans expressed on July 28. “He carries out a coup d’état, he crowns himself a dictator, he is not accompanied by the people, he is not accompanied by any government that is respected as democratic, only the dictators of Cuba, the Congo and Nicaragua.”

“I continue working on the conditions for my entry to Venezuela and assume, as the constitution mandates and the people have ordered me, the presidency of the Republic and the command in chief of the National Armed Forces. “I represent the will of almost 8 million Venezuelans within the country and that of millions of compatriots who were prevented from voting abroad and I have the duty to defend that commitment,” González argued.
Regarding the place where he is currently, he assured: “I am very close to Venezuela. I am ready for safe entry and at the right moment I will assert the votes that represent the recovery of our democracy.”
Edmundo González assures that the Maduro regime fired military planes to harm him “in the air”
“As María Corina Machado said, the decision to close the country’s borders and to artillery the military planes that guard the airspace, they sought to do with me, in the air, what they did yesterday against our leader, where unfortunately an innocent man was injured. “This only speaks of their cowardice and lack of scruples, but very soon, no matter what they do, we will manage to enter Venezuela and put an end to this tragedy.”
The opposition leader thanked the support received by a large part of the international community and also addressed the institutions and military of Venezuela: “As commander in chief, I order the military high command to ignore illegal orders given to them by those who confiscate power and to prepare my security conditions to assume the position of president of the Republic that entrusted me with popular sovereignty.”.
“The soldiers of our National Armed Forces are part of the same people and to whom they owe obedience through me, since today I am elected president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, thanks to a majority of votes expressed at the polls. I order the military and police forces to cease repression. I tell the national institutions that for the peace of the Republic they must ignore the illegitimate regime that has wanted to confiscate power again. In your hands is the institutionality of the Nation that embraces yourselves and your families.”
Finally, González Urrutia promised that he will not fail those who have sown hope in the great change of government in their country and remembered Simón Bolívar: “Our liberating father instilled in us the spirit of fighting and sacrifice for freedom. “Freedom always defeats tyranny and is the work of perseverance.”
