In its attack this morning, November 28, 2024, Russia used a hundred drones and more than 90 missiles against the Ukrainian electrical system, some of them with cluster munitions, as reported by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, on his social networks.

“These cluster munitions significantly complicate the work to repair the damage caused by the attack,” wrote Zelensky, who described this latest bombing as “a perverse escalation of Russian terrorist tactics.”

The head of the Ukrainian state explained that the missiles carrying cluster munitions were Kalibr cruise missiles, with which Russia frequently attacks Ukrainian territory.

Zelensky has thanked emergency and electrical sector workers for their work in mitigating the consequences of the bombing, which is the eleventh massive Russian attack against the Ukrainian electrical system since last March.

President of Ukraine talks about air defense systems

“Each of these attacks demonstrates that air defense systems are needed now in Ukraine, where they save lives, and not in the warehouses” of kyiv’s allies, the Ukrainian leader wrote.

Zelensky stressed that his administration is working with its partners to deploy the greatest number of anti-aircraft systems in Ukraine in the shortest time possible.

According to Ukrainian regional authorities, more than a million electricity subscribers are without power in western Ukraine due to the destruction caused by the bombing.

Meanwhile, the Air Force reported that Ukrainian defenses have shot down 79 of the total missiles launched. The Ukrainian Army has also managed to shoot down 35 of the drones.

New massive Russian attack leaves a million people without power in western Ukraine

A new massive Russian attack with missiles and drones has left more than a million people without power in three regions of western Ukraine, local authorities have reported.

In the Lviv region, bordering Poland, 523,000 subscribers to the system have been left without electricity due to the damage caused by the attack on electrical infrastructure. The number of people affected is 280,000 in the neighboring region of Rivne, and 215,000 do not have electricity in Volhynia, also bordering Lviv.

The bombing – which is the 11th major attack on the Ukrainian electricity system since last March – has also caused massive power outages in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson and the central Ukrainian city of Zhytomyr.

Russia used more than 90 missiles and a hundred drones in this attack. Ukrainian defenses have shot down 79 of the missiles and 35 of the drones.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenksi, some of the missiles were loaded with cluster munitions – composed of submunitions that cause damage over a wider area than conventional munitions – to cause more destruction.
