The former president of the Spanish government Felipe González made this Monday, December 23, 2024, a call to the Spanish Executive to contribute to the return of the opponent Edmundo González to Venezuela
just as he helped get it out last September.
“The same as they brought him, if you wish, let them take him to Caracas,” said the Spanish politician at an informative breakfast in Madrid with Edmundo González, whom he defined on several occasions as “elected president of Venezuela.”
He also asked that Spain “lead the European initiative, (…), which should naturally be distinguished by its historical relations with Venezuela and will be listened to.”

“Let Spain say: Edmundo González is the elected president of Venezuela and is at your disposal to offer him the necessary means to make his offer to agree on a transition after recognizing the results effective.” (of the elections), he specified.
“Maduro has lost the elections”: Felipe González
González Urrutia is considered the winner of the presidential elections last July in Venezuela in which he was the candidate of an opposition coalition against the current president Nicolás Maduro.
The opposition maintains that González Urrutia is the winner of the presidential election and has shown records that would confirm his victory against the Venezuelan electoral authority, which proclaimed the victory of Nicolás Maduro without publishing documentation to prove it.
In this sense, Felipe González, socialist president of the Spanish Government from 1982 to 1996, stated: “Maduro has lost the elections,” “he knows he has no legitimacy,” “he has become an arbitrary tyrant.”
He also denounced that, since the elections last July, “repression has grown exponentially.”
“It is the day and time for Edmundo González,” predicted the Spanish politician, who in statements to the media after the event stated that he is willing to accompany him on his return to Caracas.
Edmundo González arrived in Spain on September 8, with the support of the Spanish Government, after being persecuted by the Venezuelan authorities and last week the granting of the asylum he had requested upon arriving in Madrid was announced.
